Paper £10 phased out in March 2018

The Bank of England has announced that following the successful launch of the new Jane Austen £10 note on September 14, legal tender status of the paper £10 note featuring Charles Darwin will be withdrawn on March 1, 2018.

The notes can be used normally until then but businesses should develop plans to stop accepting and dispensing them after the withdrawal date.

By November 3 this year, polymer £10 notes made up over 55% of £10 notes in circulation.

After March 1, 2018, it will still be possible for Charles Darwin notes to be exchanged at banks.

To raise awareness among the public and retailers, an A4 poster is available for download from the Bank of England website. Hard copies will be available for businesses to order by early December, but can be pre-ordered now.
