Metro places five-year vending contract

Following on its recent successes in securing vending business from rail operators, Selecta has secured a five-year contract to provide vending machines on the Tyne and Wear Metro system.
Expected to be worth £1.5 million to Selecta in total turnover, this latest contract will see the company offering confectionery, snack and cold drinks vending at more than 20 Metro stations in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside.
On offer will be leading brand confectionery products from Cadbury and Mars, snacks from Walkers and cold drinks from Coca-Cola and Britvic. The vending offer may be extended to include hot beverages in the future. A dedicated Selecta merchandiser will be responsible for ensuring that all machines are fully stocked and maintained.
“Thousands of passengers travel on Metro every day and we’re very pleased to have been chosen to operate this major contract,” reported Selecta Sales and Marketing Director Jonathan Barr. “We have considerable experience of supplying vending services to the rail industry and look forward to using our expertise in this sector to meet the needs of Metro’s staff and customers.”
Metro Commercial Director Emma Holmes added: “This new contract will offer our passengers a much greater selection of snacks and refreshments at stations right across the Metro network. Selecta has an excellent track record of supplying vending machines to the railway industry and we are looking forward to working with them.”
