California Raisins and prevention of strokes

We all know by now that consuming fruit and vegetables every day is vital in preventing disease and fatal illness. And it’s easier than it sounds to make up this quota. A piece of fruit after each meal or as a snack, and vegetables with both lunch and dinner, and you’re nearly there. But don’t forget the simple snacks too. California Raisins are a great way to add an extra portion to your diet, and they contain all the healthy goodness that fruits are famous for.

Strokes are one medical problem that can be prevented by a richer diet. Analysis presented in the Lancet revealed that strokes affect more than 150,000 people in the UK each year, and an estimated 67,000 of these cases are fatal. Yet individuals who eat three to five servings of fruit and vegetables per day had an 11% reduction in the incidence of stroke compared with those who eat less than 3, while people with more than five servings per day had a relative reduction of 26%.

If simply eating more fruit and vegetables reduces this problem significantly, the benefits are endless. Remember that just one tablespoon of California Raisins is the equivalent of one 5 A Day portions, and they can be sprinkled on your cereal or salad, cooked into main meals or breads, or simply enjoyed as a snack on the go.
