British Water Cooler Association members gather for AGM

photoThe AGM and Members’ General Meeting of the British Water Cooler Association took place near Coventry on Wednesday 21 September. Members heard reports on three initiatives: charitable giving, a sustainability programme and details of the 2017 conference and trade show.

BWCA general manager Phillipa Atkinson-Clow gave details of the plans for the annual Conference & Trade Show taking place near Nottingham on Thursday 23 March 2017. The theme for the event is New Horizons, Plan to Win reflecting the topic to be adopted by the keynote speaker Frank Dick OBE.

The second key piece of news was the announcement by BWCA chairman John Dundon of a new sustainability initiative by the Association. “Ours is one of the most sustainable sectors,” he reminded the delegates. “Now our new programme of work will deliver that message to a wider audience and will also serve to share best practice by Members so that the whole Membership can benefit from the impressive knowledge and sustainability work already being undertaken.”

The sustainability programme’s flagship is to be The 5 for 5 Sustainability Pledge. This offers members five objectives, to be pursued over five years, encompassing all pillars of sustainability: financial, social and environmental. The pledges are environmental sustainability; water management; social sustainability; financial sustainability and workplace sustainability, including employee wellbeing.

The meeting welcomed new full members whose applications had been accepted: Thirsty Work, Brocolitia Water Coolers and Cascade Water Systems.
