AVA takes sweeter route

The 2018 Midlands regional meeting was held at Mondelez in Bourneville and included a tour of Cadbury World to take in its history and creation. This was followed by presentations from the AVA.

Chief executive David Llewellyn said the AVA wanted to do more and be more connected to its members to ensure they were getting the most out of membership.

Adrian Pratt, vice chairman of the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) and chair of the AVA Cup Committee, gave some insight into some of the most talked about topics in vending.

These included the potential impact of the ‘latte levy’; the increase in the UK recycling abilities as more recovery/collection points are added weekly and are becoming more accessible; and the debate over compostable packing.

He said a recent study had shown that recycling plastic and paper cups had a better environmental performance compared to composting adding that understanding these issues and potential financial barriers – such as the imposition of a ‘single use plastics’ tax – was fundamental for the future of vending.

The next regional meeting will be held at Scobie McIntosh at Smallfield on June 20.
