St Vincent College joins Gosport paper recycling scheme

Since its launch in March, the Gosport Paper Cup Recycling Scheme continues to gather impetus and the latest news is that St Vincent College has joined the scheme adding further bins to those already placed in the town.

Collaboration between Gosport Borough Council, paper cup manufacturer Huhtamaki and cup recycler Simply Cups resulted in the development of this scheme which will act as a case study for similar schemes.

Andy Grant, deputy principal of St Vincent College (on the left of the picture) said: “As a significant provider of education within the Gosport area, it’s fundamental for the college to demonstrate to students and the wider community our commitment to the environment.  Joining the scheme illustrates that key stakeholders need to work together to create successful outcomes and it also expresses our aspiration for students to stand up and take action to improve the environment.”

With six cup recycling units already firmly established at Gosport Ferry terminal and on the ferries, outside Gosport Borough Council Offices, at the leisure centre and also within the Bookworm Café inside the library, the further two units at St Vincent College will add extra impetus to the recycling scheme.  Residents simply need to make sure used cups are emptied before separating the lid from the cup and placing both items in a dedicated cup shaped bin.  Used paper cups and lids will be recycled into products such as garden furniture, park benches and flower tubs that could be used in and around Gosport.
