Refreshment Systems successfully complete 50 mile walk

The group on the first day of the walk

Staff at hot beverage provider Refreshment Systems have celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary by walking 50 miles for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

Fourteen colleagues from the company braved wind and rain to cover a route from Burnley to Apperley Bridge on the last weekend of July.

The walk not only celebrated the company’s 50th year but was also a fantastic way to help raise crucial funds for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, based in Oxenhope. Supporters of the walk really got behind the team and have raised £4,000 so far.

Community fundraiser Harriet Wood said: “When I heard how much the team had managed to raise through this walk I was completely blown away. This money will help us deliver the specialist care that our patients really need, in turn giving family and friends the peace of mind they need at what can be an extremely difficult time. Our sincerest thanks must go firstly to the team that completed the walk but also to the many supporters that got behind them and kindly gave what they could.”

Alistair Balmforth, MD at Refreshment Systems, added: “It has got to be the hardest thing that I have ever done, it took true determination and tremendous amounts of teamwork to make it through the 50 miles. I am very proud of everyone that took part and am truly touched by the amount that has been raised, for this fantastic local charity.”
