Pepsi takes latest technology on pack
Published:  09 December, 2008

A new project, expected to be the first use of quick response (QR) codes across a major consumer brand in the UK, is soon to appear on over 400 million Pepsi packs.

The QR codes will allow consumers to interact with packs via WAP and gain access to impressive content provided by Pepsi, including seminars by Pepsi's very own tongue-in-cheek life coach, Rusty Champion. Popular games including Pro Evolution Soccer and Project Gotham racing, ringtones, wallpapers and Pepsi's unique view of the best of the web will also be made available direct to consumers' mobiles.

Each time consumers snap a QR code with their mobile phone camera they will be given a different kick with loyal visitors being rewarded with exclusive content after a certain number of visits.

Chris Owen, Brand Manager for Pepsi at Britvic said: "Pepsi is again at the forefront of consumer trends, providing great entertainment to people when and where they want it through their mobile phone. With the content being constantly updated, consumers will have more reason than ever to purchase Pepsi, to see what we've got to give them next -videos, ringtones, and access to Pepsi's life coach, Rusty Champion - all of which can be shared with friends for a laugh.

"Pepsi has always led the way in providing consumers with entertainment - from music to football - now we're using the newest technology to give people a kick in the right direction and really drive sales."

Ahmed Abdel-Karim, Marketing Manager for Pepsi UK, said: "Pepsi is using QR codes to connect with, and engage, consumers in a new and exciting way wherever they are. We are finding innovative ways to communicate with Pepsi drinkers and to reward their loyalty with entertaining and interesting content, ensuring Pepsi remains front of mind."

The codes will appear on all major packs across all Pepsi variants including regular Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max.
