Packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki supported the first-ever UK Coffee Week (4th - 10th April 2011). John Young, the company's UK Foodservice Sales & Marketing Director commented: “We’ve been delighted to be involved with UK Coffee Week, a great event aimed at helping an extremely worthy cause!  As one of the world’s leading packaging manufacturers, we play a key role within the coffee industry and continue to develop innovative concepts which add to the vibrancy of the industry.”

In support of UK Coffee Week, Huhtamaki partnered with coffee shop, Costa, to create a larger than life replica of its iconic double wall takeaway cup.  Standing at almost 2.5m tall, the massive Costa cup was launched during UK Coffee Week on the Costa stand at the London Coffee Festival (8-10th April). The massive Costa cup will now take pride of place in Costa’s Head Office.

Market trends

Commenting on the latest market trends, Guy Jacques of vending and catering disposable manufacturer Nupik Flo said: "Plastic vending cup sales continue to be strong across the UK and Europe however, the biggest issue at present to hit manufacturers and operators alike is the high price of raw materials.”

"We’ve seen encouraging growth in existing products and introduced new 7oz and 9oz brown and white automatic vending cups. Innovation undoubtedly is the way forward for vending and a more widely accepted method of reducing costs particularly with plastic vending cups is reduction in weight and or enhanced stacking techniques without the loss of reliability and quality.

"As a specialist manufacturer we’ve already run successful trials with lighter weight cups with enhanced stacking in mainland Europe and enhanced stacking products here in the UK. Most are now part of the standard range of cups we offer. However, as any manufacturer seems to find, whilst innovation is requested and new potentially cost saving products are available it doesn’t ensure that it’s going to be taken-up by the industry immediately and this is a key problem."

RPC Tedeco-Gizeh, a UK based manufacturer and supplier of plastic vending and drinking water cups, is an integral division of the wider RPC Group - European leader in rigid plastic packaging.

The comprehensive range of cups manufactured at the factory in Kenfig, South Wales includes the industry standards of 7oz Squat/Tall and 9oz Squat cups for hot drinks. The division also manufactures the 7oz clear for cold drinks and a wide range of drinking cups and styles, in addition to the recently launched HotCool insulated cup and Prestigo ranges.

The core ranges of vending cups are available in a range of colours to meet the demands of individual serving environments, and can also be custom printed to endorse individual branding or drive promotional messages and seasonal activity.

With environmental concerns a key priority RPC Tedeco-Gizeh vending cups are made from 100% recyclable material and are at the forefront of national recycling initiatives offering a range of cup collection options and accessories made from recycled materials.

“The business focus, ethic and quality standard make RPC Tedeco-Gizeh the vending cup manufacturer of choice to Mars Drinks, the AVS Group, Bunzl, Refresh U Group, NIVO Group and countless excellent independent vending operators,” said Adrian Pratt, UK Sales and Accounts Manager.

Cup dispensers

Allpure filters, sole European distributor of Omnipure products, are offering an environmentally friendly cup dispenser that takes 50 - 75 cups at a time. The dispenser's s hygienic design cuts the risk of cross contamination, especially in health related locations; while it's strong but simple mechanism ensures the delivery of one cup at a time. All magnetic or screw fixing options are included. The dispenser is also eco-friendly especially in public locations dispensing cups or cones - no more multiple drop outs, plus a cup capture means no wastage either.

Abbeychart, meanwhile, has added to its range of magnetic and screw-mounted dispensers with a new range of internally-mounted, adjustable stainless steel cup dispensers. The new dispensers are manufactured from high grade stainless steel and are designed to fit most standard counter mounts and vending machines.

For customer ease of use, the patented spring-loaded dispense mechanism and adjustable collars ensure that the contents are always held fast, with retainer clips maintaining accurate control allowing for just one cup to be removed at a time.

The ranges of three different sizes are fully adjustable and can accommodate cup sizes from 6oz right up to the mighty 46oz cup size. Sizes available are 6-12oz, 12-24oz and 32-46oz.
