  • John Sewell is new Editor of Vending International

    Datateam Publishing is pleased to announce the appointment of John Sewell as Editor of Vending International, the longest established magazine serving the UK automatic vending industry.

    With some 26 years' experience working with the vending industry, John is a member of the respected Vending 21 Club - an organisation which was actually established by the first editor of VI.

    Three years ago, Apogee international and members of the Vending Industry gifted a vending machine, servicing and ingredients to TreeHouse, a National Centre for Autism Education. In August this year, Apogee Director Elaine Wood, started another project, this time on behalf of the Chrysalis School for Autism in Codicote, Herts, where her daughter Anna is Head of ABA.

    A K Muller (UK) Ltd was a joint venture between parent company A K Muller GmbH and UK company Becktech, set up in 1993 to supply solenoid valves to the UK vending industry. Earlier this year Becktech sold their shares back to A K Muller GmbH in an arrangement that was amicable to all parties involved.

Dietary fibres and lipids have been highlighted as recent innovations to hit the market.     Barclaycard Business has signed up more than 1000 retail outlets for OneTouch, its in-store contactless payment technology, including major high street names EAT and Krispy Kreme. Having announced its intention to introduce contactless payments to the UK last year, Barclaycard Business now predicts that several thousand retail outlets will be ready to accept contactless payments.

    Leading UK vending services provider Selecta has been awarded a three-year contract to provide hot beverage vending services to Shell service stations in the UK.

    Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) has implemented a Reverse Vending Recycling Machine to encourage students to recycle plastic bottles and aluminium cans. The green initiative was made made possible through joint funding from RUSU and The University of Reading's Annual Fund Campaign. The machine will encourage students to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans when on campus.

    A K Muller (UK) Ltd have further extended their range of boiler valves with a new anti-limescale version. Their Commercial Manager, Tim Barker, explains: "Our engineers took the industry standard 46.000 series boiler valve and dramatically redesigned the internal parts to combat the build up of lime scale. Firstly, the valves inlet has been increased in diameter and internally slopes towards the valve chamber.
