    Stockport businessman Rob Little, whose company Vendman provides data management systems to 80% of the UK’s vending operators, has launched what he hopes will be ‘an industry-wide campaign’ aimed at the well-known broadcaster James May.

    In his new book ‘The Man Lab’, Mr. May, who is best known as a presenter of the hit BBC TV show ‘Top Gear’, offers his readers advice in the event of a vending machine failing to deliver the goods.

    The European Vending Association (EVA) recently welcomed its newest member: the Romanian Vending Association (PRIV), tallying its National Association membership to 21.

    The Romanian Employers’ Association of the Vending Industry (PRIV) was established by some of the pioneers working in the Romanian vending sector. The idea of establishing a national vending association grew from adverse issues that Romanian vending machine operators were facing in the absence of a legislative framework.

    The EVA's Technical Committee has updated its EVA EMP – Energy Measurement Protocol. The main difference in the new version, EMP 3.0., is that the document is divided into two parts: chilled, frozen & ambient machines (EMP 3.0a), and hot & cold drinks machines (EMP 3.0b).

    Furthermore, the EVA Technical Committee will submit its EMP 3.0b protocol to CENELEC, which is the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization. The process could take one to three years, and the use of the protocol as a standard will remain voluntary, as it is now.

Both an Austrian and French national, he speaks German and French at native speaker level and is also fluent in English, with conversational level Spanish. He studied law at the University of Nancy and holds two Master Degrees, one in Political Science from the University of Innsbruck, and a Masters of Arts in European Political and Administrative Studies from the prestigious College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.

    Launched in 1935 in York under the brand name ‘Rowntree’s Chocolate Crisp’, the name changed to Kit Kat in 1937 and today more than one billion Kit Kat products are eaten every year in the UK.

The AVA has sold their shares in the company for a nominal sum and have retained their ownership of the name and the domain names which they have leased to the new owners. This is to ensure that we have a measure of control in the way in which the company is marketed to the end users etc.

  • Nestlé invests CHF 500 million in coffee projects, doubling direct purchases

    On 27 August, Nestlé launched the Nescafé Plan in Mexico City, bringing under one umbrella Nestlé’s commitments on coffee farming, production and consumption. The Nescafé Plan contains a set of objectives which will help Nestlé further optimize its coffee supply chain. In addition to the CHF 200 million invested over the past ten years, Nestlé will invest CHF 500 million in coffee projects by 2020. This includes an investment of CHF 350 million for the Nescafé Plan and CHF 150 million for Nespresso. The Rainforest Alliance, an international non-governmental organization, will support Nestlé together with other partners of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) and the coffee association, 4C, in meeting the Nescafé Plan objectives related to farming.

    HM Treasury recently approved a proposal to change the 5p and 10p coins from the current cupro-nickel alloy to nickel-plated steel.     In November 2008, the Welsh government restricted the products that can be sold through vending machines in Welsh Hospitals without any consultation with the Vending industry.

    Fearing that this would be extended to other parts of the UK, the AVA formed the Vending Choice Coalition (a group comprising of key food and beverage associations, major brand manufacturers and operator companies) whose aim is to ensure that vending is able to continue to offer a wide range of products in hospitals.
