  • Benders Extends Traceability Codes Across All Vending Cups

    Benders now extend the traceability coded printed on the bottom of their paper cups to cover all vending paper cups manufactured for the UK and European markets. Even though Benders manufacturer one of the most reliable vending cups in the market, the traceability initiative is another example of their commitment to improved quality, making it easier for the vending operator and ensuring that the operators maximise their profit opportunities.

    Markets for sustainable products have expanded significantly over the last five years, growing much faster than those for conventional products, according to the State of Sustainability Initiatives (SSI) Review 2010, published in November last year. The report revealed that sales of certified sustainable coffee have more than quadrupled over the past five years; sustainable tea production by more than fifty times over the same period and sustainable cocoa sales, by 248%.

    Plans for the new 5p and 10p coins were announced last year. Instead of using the current cupronickel alloy, the new coins will use steel with a nickel coating and be magnetic for the first time. Although there will not appear to be a lot of difference, there will be an increase in thickness with the new coins measuring 1.9mm, rather than 1.7mm.

    Nestlé Fawdon has announced the development of a butterfly meadow, set in its factory grounds, designed to encourage indigenous wildlife back to the area. The butterfly sanctuary, situated at Nestlé’s Newcastle site, was created with the assistance of its employees and their families.

    Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery won the California Raisin Bread Competition 2011 which took place at Bakers Fair, Newbury Racecourse, on Sunday 10th April 2011. The company took first prize having received top marks from the judges for its Sweet Caribbean Brioche Nanterre which reflected the flavours of the Caribbean cocktail, Pina Colada. As a result of the win, Greenhalgh’s will receive free marketing promotional retail support from California Raisins over the next year.

  • Europs 2011: A great success for its 5th edition

    EurOps, the European Conference for Operators, organised by the EVA, took place on the 14 and 15 April, in Estoril, Portugal and enjoyed a high turnout with 110 participants, representing all segments of the industry. Around 60% of those attending were operators, 32% were suppliers (ingredient suppliers, machine manufacturers, payment system manufacturers, etc).
