Large scale reduction
Published:  09 January, 2009

Instanta builds its boilers to high standards and they are designed to give many years of use. However, for those in hard water areas the company strongly recommends that they take steps to prevent the damage that can be caused by scale. Scale can block internal fittings, insulate water and temperature sensors, cause heating elements to fail and generally shorten the life of a boiler.

Such damage can turn out to be very inconvenient and extremely expensive and so Instanta has got together with a leading water treatment manufacturer to provide a number of potential solutions.

The AQ range is a range of filters that will convert the scale into a more manageable form. The filters will not eliminate scale and are suggested for low volume users in moderately hard water areas. They are good for up to 5,000 litres or a maximum of 6 months.

The AQOM20 range of filters, however, will remove scale and is recommended for low volume users in medium to hard water areas. They are good for up to 3800 litres or a maximum of six months (based on water hardness of 200ppm of CaCO3).

The OM30 range will remove scale and is recommended for higher volume users in medium to hard water areas. They are good for up to 7300 litres or a maximum of six months (based on water hardness of 200ppm of CaCO3).

What are high and low volume users? Commercial caterers and residential homes are almost always high volume users whereas offices tend to have more moderate requirements.

All Instanta scale reducers are supplied complete with hoses to connect to the water supply. To help the user identify when the filter needs to be changed the company offers a monitor compatible with the CT and WB2 Supreme range of boilers only. These monitors measure the volume of water used and warn when the filter is reaching exhaustion. These monitors are available in kits complete with filters. In soft water areas the company also offers taste and odour filters for better tasting water.
