‘A canteen in a vending machine' is how leading Spanish vending machine manufacturer, Jofemar, is describing Gourmet, its latest hot snacks vendor with integral microwave.
Gourmet is a versatile hot food vending machine, offering up to 60 selections. It is well placed to augment restaurant services in the workplace, for example by serving shift workers long after the canteen has closed. On small sites with fewer than, say, 80 employees it can even be used to replace a canteen completely.
The machine is also suitable for ‘no frills' hotels offering accommodation without dining facilities. The Gourmet can form part of a bank of vending machines offering guests services like hot food, beverages, alcoholic drinks and toiletries. Such a system could be made accessible to guests by using their room key and networked to the hotel's PMS by means of a cashless system.
Major food manufacturers and premium brand holders will find them a good way of dispensing their products whilst at the same time offering them a highly visible advertising opportunity.
The Gourmet can serve hot food such as ready meals, pizzas, hot sandwiches, baguettes, ciabattas and other ‘fresh from the oven' products. It incorporates a high power microwave - enabling it to heat up the food more quickly than domestic models. In fact, the maximum time any hot product will take to dispense is 45 seconds.
Easy to use, a user simply decides on a selection and puts in the money. The machine is fitted with a J2000 change-giver, so the correct money is not necessary. A bill reader is an optional extra, as are card readers. When a selection is made, the chosen product is gently placed onto an elevator arm, which moves the food directly to the microwave module which takes between 30 and 45 seconds to heat the product correctly before gently delivering it to the dispense area.
Unlike some machines, where vended products are cold and need to be manually microwaved, the Gourmet heats and dispenses snacks in one single operation. Heating time is programmed for each product individually, to ensure it is served in optimum condition for immediate consumption. The machine is offered with the choice of two different product heating systems - a double microwave or microwave plus grill.
The Gourmet machine also has a chiller unit built in so that it can also vend cold drinks and other refrigerated goods - all from the same machine.
A ‘first in-first out' product selection system alternates delivery between channels linked through programming to ensure strict stock rotation within the machine. The cabinet, fitted with a theft-proof lock and manufactured from high-grade steel to protect against vandalism, is factory treated to be corrosion-resistant and rustproof, making it ideal for public sites.
