Director General's notebook

I have previously written about the EVA's exciting Market/Consumer Survey Project, for which I was looking for Investors. Well, I am delighted to report that we have successfully signed up a sufficient number of Investors to launch the project in line with our timing.

The 14 Investors are: Autobar, Azkoyen, Barry Callebaut, Bianchi Vending, Coca Cola, FAS, Huhtamaki, Kraft, Lavazza, Mars, Nestlé, N&W Global Vending, Selecta and Veriplast. We look forward to a positive response from some other companies, too.

The Investors will be closely involved in finalising the questionnaires both for the market and consumers. They will follow the project step-by-step and control the data sanity and quality of the finished product. They will also receive the survey at first hand, upon finalization (February 2009), and have access to the raw data, which will be available on a password-protected website.

The project will include a European report comparing the various markets and consumer feedbacks based on common definitions developed by the EVA Vending Data Committee, with a geographical coverage of 21 countries, plus a detailed country-by-country survey.

In order for the project to meet the highest quality standards, our research partner Datamonitor will interview 210 market experts, as well as conduct an on-line survey with 3,000 vending operators and 9,100 vending consumers in Europe.

Right now we need the support and cooperation of all players in the vending industry and, in particular, that of the National Associations, who will be asked to provide us with the contact details of 10 experts per market (based on a profile  established by the EVA), as well as the contact details of all their operator members. Last, but not least, we will need the NAs to communicate the project and encourage their members to respond fully to the Datamonitor questionnaires.

This project will allow the vending associations across Europe to build a more dynamic and powerful identity for the industry, backed up by relevant data for use in future communications with the authorities, press or general public. I am thrilled to embark on this ambitious project, and take the opportunity to thank the Vending Data Committee and its leader, Jan Marck Vrijlandt, for their dedication and to thank the EVA EC, chaired by Arnaud van Amerongen, for believing in the project, and what it seeks to achieve.
