The EVA is closely following the debates on the Commission's proposal for a Regulation on Consumer Information. According to the current proposal, machines will have to display any allergens that are present in the ‘loose' products, such as milk powder or syrups.
The EVA Hygiene Committee (HC) is centralising the debate on how this could be done in practical terms, and whether this should be based on different approaches, depending on the type of location (workplace or public). The HC's view is that a common approach should be developed by the EVA and national associations, so that the consumers would be informed in the same way, across Europe.
Depending upon the speed at which the Regulation is being discussed in the European Parliament, adoption may be delayed until after the next European elections in June 2009.
