Award-winning cup helps Ashurst scoop top prize
Published:  14 August, 2008

The latest product development from Huhtamaki has helped Coffee Point customer, Ashurst LLP, scoop the Platinum Award (Special Commendation) in the Clean City Awards Scheme.

Tim Newberry, Coffee Point Plc. said: "Of the 40 organisations invited to tender for the Platinum award, Ashurst LLP was one of only ten to succeed. In addition, only two organisations are given Special Commendations - as a sort of ‘runners-up' to the Chairman's Cup. I am delighted that Ashurst LLP has won this title as it recognises their commitment to reducing, reusing and recycling."

Huhtamaki's new bio-coated paper cup is an addition to its existing range of BioWare single-use cups, plates and containers - all of which are completely compostable. Ashurst LLP will add to its existing BioWare paper vending cups by taking the 4oz, 8oz and 9oz sizes.

Manufactured using materials from sustainably managed forests, Huhtamaki's bio-coated cup meets the requirements of the ever-increasing number of customers who are concerned about the environment, as Ray McNamara, Vending Sales Manager, Huhtamaki (UK) explains: "The demand for environmentally-friendly products continues to rise, so as industry experts it is essential that we listen to the demands of our customers, and we work extremely hard to provide the market with innovative foodservice disposables.

"The carton board material of our new cup carries the Forestry Stewardship Council's (FSC) chain of custody certificate, and the cup itself is certified in accordance with EN13432 - the European ‘norm' for compostability of packaging. In addition, thanks to the cup's innovative bio-coating, the product can be composted in industrial composting facilities. The entire chain, from raw material input to production and disposal, has been designed to have a minimal impact on the environment."

Available in a range of sizes the bio-coated cups are ideal for daily catering, outdoor festivals and mass events, and, not only are the new cups available in the attractive BioWare stock design, you can customise your own - a great promotional tool.
