Talking with the EC about WEEE
Published:  14 August, 2008

In view of the forthcoming WEEE revision, the EVA has submitted its comments to the European Commission, including the recommendation that the B2B targets be kept as they were, and reminding the Commission that the vending industry was an intensive reuser of machines, spare parts and components.

The EVA also requested that these should not be included in the scope of the Directive. It supported the Commission's idea that ecodesign should be better stimulated through defining targets for reusability, recyclability and recoverability.

The comments were submitted in the form of answers to a Commission

questionnaire, but the EVA felt that some areas were missing, and took the initiative to add a few points:

  • A request to have an unambiguous European Manufacturers' ID
  • The possibility to apply a visible fee in B2B, as it is done in Denmark and Spain
  • The possibility to make the final customer financially responsible for the WEEE, as is the case in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
