‘Filling the role of essential showcase' - Barry Bennett
Published:  18 June, 2008

I am contributing to the discussion on ‘AVEX 2009 and Beyond' as Chairman of the AVA. AVEX successfully fills the role of essential showcase for the UK vending industry ... THE market place where the World of Vending comes together to celebrate achievements to date and discuss future development. AVEX has maintained its position as one of Europe's premier vending exhibitions by adapting to changing market needs and this approach must guide 2009 and beyond.

As all sectors of our Industry undergo change, it is essential that we have a regular forum where all of the players in our industry come together to showcase products and services at one major event. AVEX is and will remain that event.

The major changes that we are witnessing in both consumer trends and market structure in the UK and the wider European markets have presented both challenges and opportunities for all sectors of the vending market. Companies that have embraced the need for change and focused on better meeting changing needs are winning. AVEX must also continue to change and constantly seek to satisfy ever greater demands from both exhibitors and customers.

The development of AVEX 2009 is being guided by detailed feedback from the key stakeholders. In a challenging business environment, all companies are looking for increased value. In 2009, AVEX will respond by staging a show that will present our Industry in the best possible light, attract more customers AND enable all exhibitors to reduce their costs to participate whilst maintaining or increasing the quality of presentation. To deliver on these objectives, many developments have already been put in place:

  • The move to the NEC, Birmingham to improve accessibility and facilities.
  • A two-day show preceded by two days of build up to reduce the total time commitment and associated costs for all exhibitors.
  • Partnering with the EPDWA who represent the major growth sector for water.
  • A drinks reception open to all at the end of the first day followed by a party at the Hilton on the NEC complex.
  • Major improvements in shell scheme design, carpeting and support services on site to ensure high quality presentation with great value for money.
  • A marketing campaign, including the involvement by both major trade magazines, to ensure high levels of communication to potential visitors.
When I look back at previous AVEX shows, I always remember the overall impression created. To see our industry well presented in all its glory gives me an enormous sense of pride. I know that many others feel the same and we must never lose that feeling of belonging to something special. AVEX is important to us all and 2009 will be a great show...see you there.
