Vending International
‘A win-win package' - Susan Nash
Published:  18 June, 2008

Kraft Foods, parent company of the Kenco Coffee Company, is very supportive of the planned changes made for AVEX for 2009, but before I go further I should declare we are members of the organising committee! Kraft Foods agreed to be a member of the committee in order to help support positive change for this important UK- based international vending exhibition. We believe the exhibition is unique as the only exhibition to attract both operators and specificiers.

As the Kraft representative I can confirm the organising committee has been very keen to seek views from the industry in order to make AVEX 2009 an effective, worthwhile and value for money marketing tool. The decisions of the committee so far have been progressive and intended to enable a win-win package for exhibitors and attendees alike.

What do I mean by this? The central location means that visitors from north and south have good access and more visitors will be able to get to the exhibitions without requiring overnight accommodation, so reducing their costs.

A two-day exhibition will hopefully reduce what I call ‘ dead showtime' - three and four day shows always seem to have a slow start and end at lunchtime on the last day, which is not the case at two-day shows.

Removing the need for a weekend build may also reduce some exhibitor costs. While it is not the organising committee role to tell exhibitors how to invest in terms of stand design and build quality, they can facilitate lower cost builds through the availability of good quality and innovative shell schemes - which is what the committee has achieved. So I would suggest that exhibitors do review what's available, as they may be surprised how good and different shell schemes can look!

Finally I think it is a great boost to the event to be working with The European Point of Use Drinking Water Association and key industry publications such as Vending International and Autovending. These partnerships will really help the event to attract specifiers which is where I believe the committee's focus should now turn.

I look forward to reading my fellow contributors' comments. As a committee member, I will certainly ensure any feedback gets to the committee.
