N&W trains 7,000
Published:  16 May, 2008

While the skills gap across the UK may be impacting on a variety of industries, when it comes to training, the vending industry is leagues ahead. N & W Global Vending, for example, recently welcomed its 7,000th trainee at its Bilston headquarters.

To mark the occasion, the trainee in question, namely Iain Somerville, an engineer from Bunzl Vending Services was presented with a shiny new tool kit.

N&W's training department provides technical training courses for customers within its purpose-built training centre, which benefits from the company's entire product range, giving engineers access to practical examples on which to train.

Together with operating manuals and presentation documents, the courses provide a unique supported learning environment, with hands-on training, theory presentations, certification of compliance and a comprehensive course timetable.

Supporting engineers in the field, is key to training as Steve Dolman, training manager at N&W explains: "Meeting the needs of the engineers in the field is imperative for us, so we operate a three-level training programme, to cover all capabilities. But it doesn't stop there. We also create bespoke operator training and on-site training support based around individual customer needs. It's all about keeping everyone up to date and ultimately prolonging the life cycle of all our machines, which means excellent return on investment and reduced impact on the environment."

Three-step training courses include:

  • Level 1 Beginner: Overview of features and main modules plus basic programming of the equipment
  • Level 2 Standard: Full hands on, strip down of equipment, rebuild and theory presentation
  • Level 3 Advanced: Advanced programming, machine updates and bulletins plus advanced fault diagnosis techniques
Carl Bjorkstrand, Managing Director of N&W Global Vending comments: "Our training programme has played a pivotal role in ensuring that people across the industry have the skills they need to maintain the N&W product range.

"The training is designed to meet the needs of engineers and provide a national reach. We knew we had a lot of people through out doors over the years, but were amazed when we actually looked at the figures. Our commitment to training is unequivocal, and we are thrilled to have had so many industry figures through the doors over the years. Their participation is key to achieving our ambition for the development and delivery of skills training in the industry."
