Driving the rise in B2C
Published:  16 May, 2008

The UK's coffee boom has seen an explosion of chains open across the country and is mooted to be worth £1bn-a-year. But it's not just the chains that are picking up on the coffee sensation, leisure centres, offices, and industry alike also want a piece of the action, driving the rise in bean-to-cup vending.

Mike Kane, Sales and Marketing Director at N&W explains: "The high street is full of coffee shops and people have coffee machines at home producing better quality coffee. Basically, more people are drinking more coffee, and we expect a decent cup wherever we are. Gone are the days of a straight ‘white coffee', we want cappos, lattes, americanos ... the list goes on.

"Today's ‘worth-it' culture is constantly looking for those small indulgencies, whether that's buying supermarket premium brands or upgrades on budget flights, people want something ‘extra' and businesses are catching on."

N&W recently launched The Big One, the first extra-large, high street style, coffee vendor with a 12 oz paper cup. The Big One is a totally unique machine, the first of its kind, and is aimed at sites where the customer has access to the high street, allowing businesses and workplaces to compete directly with the coffee-to-go retailers. Its design, advanced technology and functionality make it practical and easy to use.

The Big One offers coffee house quality, with the high street experience and vending flexibility. The 300-cup capacity makes it suitable for a variety of locations, and is available in three different layouts - two difference fresh bean coffee versions, and one with fresh brew tea.

Mike concluded: "Organisations whose primary business doesn't revolve around coffee per se, are finding bean-to-cup machines a blessing, it means they can compete with the chains. As a nation we're drinking a staggering 70 million cups of coffee a day, and retail sales have risen from £632m in 2002 to £680m in 2005. As far as the consumer is concerned, they want instant gratification, and The Big One has the ability to provide that top quality coffee".
