Two new systems from Jofemar
Published:  17 April, 2008

Jofemar UK has introduced two new additions to its range of cashless payment systems - the J130 and the J300 - which may be fitted to any brand of vending machine or merchandiser on the market.

The J130 is an update of the Jofemar's best-selling J100 system. The principal point of difference is the ability of the new unit to be programmed to interface with any of the leading protocols -MDB, Executive or Serial. The benefit to operators is clear - only one type of cashless interface is required instead of potentially three.

The J130 is a compact and affordable card and key reader, which can be discretely and simply fitted to almost any model of vending machine, giving a totally controllable, closed cashless environment at modest cost. It is capable of working with both smart cards and key systems and offers a high level of reliability.

The system works in stand-alone mode or can be added to a vending machine with an existing coin mechanism and note reader, thus giving customers the choice of cash or cashless operation. Users can revalue their cards or keys using either a money loader or, more simply, via the vending machine's own integral coin/note mechanism. Simply by inserting their card/key in the reader, employees can find out what is available to spend.

The new J300 is a totally new online cashless payment system from Jofemar. Unlike the J130, credit is not actually stored on the card or key at all. Instead, each device is programmed with a discreet user ID number. When making a purchase, the user passes the card or key through the reader, which recognises the user ID and sends information about the vending machine purchase to a remote computer. This computer manages the user's account, keeping details of transactions made and remaining credit balance. Credit may be topped up using a money loader or even by cheque.

The main benefit of the J300 is that cash is not kept on the card and so if the card or key is lost, access to the user account may be easily cancelled without loss of funds. This system is particularly useful in the workplace, where payroll deduction is regarded as a more efficient method of paying for refreshments from a vending machine. It is also highly suitable in penal institutions, where it is desirable to remove cash from the environment, whilst still allowing inmates to access food and drink from vendors.
