There are some 3,700,000 food and beverage vending machines in Europe, according to figures published by the European Vending Association. More than 70 per cent provide hot drinks with the remainder offering anything from sandwiches to cold drinks, hot meals and snacks. The machines are operated by around 10,000 companies - mostly SMEs and family-run organisations.
The EVA figures report that some 100,000 people work in vending throughout Europe. There are plants in Britain, France, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia and Spain producing vending machines, payment systems, food, beverage and confectionery products, plus ancillaries such as cups.
Figures from the European vending sector suggest that more than 10,000,000 hot drinks and many millions of cold beverages are vended every day.
With the number of new product introductions, company consolidations, operating company launches (and disappearances), plus the ever-expanding nature of the European ‘footprint', the EVA must surely have an unenviable task in trying to keep up-to-date!
