Müller® UK has reinforced its commitment to reducing packaging and food waste by signing up to The Courtauld Commitment established by the government-funded WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme).
The company joins all of the major UK supermarket retailers and a growing number of leading fmcg manufacturers who have joined together in a pledge to supporting the Courtauld Commitment's objectives of reducing household and food packaging waste in the UK by 340,000 tonnes by 2010.
While the overall objective is to reduce the weight and volume of packaging waste, Müller® UK will also work with WRAP to explore a number of options with the initial focus being on recycled plastic packaging and on-pack labelling.
Stewart Gilliland, CEO of Müller® UK, says: "Our strategy is to develop a holistic approach to assessing and tackling the impact that different aspects of our business have on the environment.
"We are keen to work with both our customers and suppliers to identify where sustainable improvements can be made. Signing up to the Courtauld Commitment fits perfectly with that philosophy as WRAP's aim is to work in partnership to reduce waste that ends up in the household bin. In order to achieve the optimum results it is fundamental to get the buy in of all parties involved. WRAP's initiative means that suppliers and retailers are both working towards the same objectives and as part of that process are willing to share knowledge and experiences to achieve a common goal."
