Seen at Eu’Vend, Deutsche Wurlitzer presented their range of vending solutions - and they have an interesting selection. The glass-fronted spiral machines are well made with high gauge metal cabinets and extensive use of stainless steel. These machines seem to be built to a quality standard and not just the lowest price possible.
This enables machines to be adapted for different uses and makes them very suitable for public and retail opportunities. An example of this is the My Memory Vending project that has been completed in the UK. This machine has been turned into a retail kiosk by attaching a touch screen display panel. The unit is also enabled with a Chip & PIN debit and credit card system. This also allows dispensing of higher value items, everything from computer and phone accessories through to expensive impulse lines or products that might be stolen from normal retail shelf displays.
Another concept is managing engineering consumables in a workshop environment. Again by using adaptive technology it is possible to control the issue of special tools and associated products. Users of the machine enter their identity through a PIN pad followed by a job number. The item can then be dispensed. This eliminates wastage and helps control costs by matching the products used against particular jobs. There are supply chain benefits as well with product partners able to check usage and automatically implement orders.
For the hotel sector, Wurlitzer are able to integrate a guest room key card into the machine. This allows the purchase of items to be centrally charged to the room account. The range of merchandise here can be adjusted to suit the busy traveller, this could include adapter plugs and toiletries. It could include a range of drinks as well and that eliminates the need for individual room mini-bars, as well as providing an out of hours service.
Wurlitzer think outside the box when it comes to different applications and a wide variety of products can be dispensed automatically. They have newspaper and magazine vendors and, coming soon, a purpose made DVD and CD vending machine. This allows music sampling and film clips to be played creating a draw to the machine and an opportunity for sales and promotion.
Deutsche Wurlitzer are now a member of the Gibson Family of Companies and have strong worldwide presence. They certainly know how to extend vending into retail. Further details can be obtained from their UK offices in Oxfordshire.
