A dynamic and very different new vending machine called “The Shape” has been launched by Locwil, manufacturers of coin operated vending products. The new machine has a highly unusual and striking design, and has already been dubbed as “the future of coin operated vending” by those who have seen it. It is set to cause quite a stir in a very traditional market.
“We saw that there was an opportunity to do something very different,” commented Stewart Wilson-Bett from Locwil, “for years we have been producing the most reliable vending machines in the market, primarily for the sanitary sector. Our clients were telling us that they loved our machines but there was also a real opportunity for a machine that had all of our engineered reliability, combined with a fashionable appearance. The Shape is that machine; we believe that it has curves, charisma and performance!”
Locwil commissioned a design team to come up with some original and challenging ideas that would have real impact with the end user. It was important that the new design would work across different vending sectors and have a wideranging appeal for different branded products. The team set out to design a machine that was practical and, at the same time, offered the best possible promotional platform for the operator.
Six months of intensive development and research produced a series of highly different and unconventional designs, but “The Shape” with its distinctive and pleasing looks came out as the clear winner against the original design brief.
“The reaction from everyone was the same,” commented John Mason, Locwil’s Production Manager, “they thought it looked stunning, and we have ensured that The Shape is manufactured to our exacting engineering standards.”
One of the interesting effects of the new design is that its impact is amplified in operational settings where more than one machine can be sited. In research tests, a line-up of three machines was found to give the most striking effect, offering major opportunities for operators and brand owners to develop creative promotional ideas.
Over the coming months, Locwil's team are set to work closely with operators to demonstrate how the dynamic range of colours and special finishes that are available can be tailored to maximise the opportunity presented by “The Shape.”
