Vending International
A Global Player in money handling
Published:  05 October, 2009

Astrosys International Ltd, a subsidiary of Hong Kong based Astrotech Group, was founded in 1997 with a focus on the GBA Bank Note Validator developing a strong market presence, particularly in the UK and Europe. Then, in 1999, it further strengthened its position as a global player in money handling by acquiring Australia-based Microsystem Controls, widely acknowledged as one of the leading coin validation technology experts worldwide. It now has 40 employees located around the world, whilst there are another 2000 employees in Astrotech's two ISO9001-certified manufacturing plants.

GBA ST1

Specifically designed for the vending industry, the GBA ST1 banknote validator's modular architecture and secure cashbox design are proving to be key talking points. The ability to disassemble the unit and then re-assemble it within 30 seconds has been a winner with service technicians, as has the ability to re-configure the GBA ST1 from upstacker to downstacker operation with only the change of the front fascia.

It has been identified that there is a growing need, in the vending and kiosk industries especially, for additional note security. Thus having a lockable, secure note cassette has allowed the GBA ST1 to progress into applications which demand security as a priority. The unique design of the note cassette draws notes within the cassette housing, where an internal plate then punches the notes into the storage space. Unlike other note cassettes, there is no direct access to the note storage space once the cassette has been removed from the main chassis, which prevents note pilfering - a common source of theft.

The GBA ST1 has a family of models, offering a variety of robust note stacking options. There are the contemporary upstacking and downstacking configurations and an interesting horizontal presentation, which allows the GBA ST1 to be laid down horizontally and secured to the front panel of its host, without the need for any internal shelving. The note cassette is then easily accessible as is the entire main chassis, which can be simply removed from its supporting bracket.

The most recent addition to the GBA ST1 is a true 1000 note cassette, which can hold up to 1000 street grade notes in a lockable note canister, whilst at the other end of the scale, the GBA ST1 can be configured to be situated in depths as limiting as 10cm in order to accommodate slim-line machine designs.

Flashing note guides have been introduced to provide more obvious and user friendly interaction whilst an innovative new discrimination method, "Sense Technology", provides high level acceptance of true notes whilst maintaining security against counterfeit and fraud attempts.

With one model being able to offer multiple interfaces including MDB, global currency configurations and higher security, the GBA ST1 has exceeded expectations for its universal appeal, delivering performance and functionality previously restricted to top end note validators, at a price to suit most budgets.

GBA ST2

The GBA ST2 is the latest note validator product to come out of the GBA stable, delivering smart, stackerless note acceptor solutions to the demands of cost-conscious currency applications in wide ranging market applications as diverse as carwash change machines to specialised AWP solutions.

The GBA ST2 is immediately robust and reliable, both in terms of its excellent range of note validation and its sturdy construction. It may be presented with a simple and smart mounting option comprising of a metal bracket and modern, stylish bezel.

The GBA ST2 combines the reliability of previous GBA validators with essential new features and options required in today's marketplace. With a stylish design, unprecedented ease of servicing and a capability, at 85mm, to accept even the world's widest notes, all requirements have been covered.

Mechanically, the GBA ST2 is in a class of its own, with a completely removable top housing. This innovative, cable free design allows for the easiest of access to the note path and therefore affords minimal downtime. A simple "push and click" action secures the GBA ST2 to a range of modern and attractive mounting bezels and conversely, an easy "button push" release removes the unit for on-site handling.

It accepts up to 32 notes, up to 85mm in width, in 4 directions via an illuminated note guide and offers FLASH download capabilities via either a USB flash drive or a comprehensive GBATalk software package.

Microcoin QL

The Microcoin QL coin validator is a fully electronic, high speed, multi-coin validator.

It is a superb example of product excellence, designed from first principles to provide unparalleled multi-currency discrimination and coin handling for a host of coin-op applications. In fact, the Microcoin QL can operate at up to 10 cps in either a top or front entry format.

It is packed with features, including "Quick Learn" on board programming, diagnostics and enhanced security and can retrofit into virtually any mechanical bracket or can be fitted with its own modern and stylish faceplate.

Its unique ability to accept multiple coins at speed makes it ideal for many Gaming, amusement, kiosk and vending applications, particularly where the customer should not be restricted by slow coin-in feed rates.

It also works in specialised applications such as carwash, where specially treated Microcoin QLs offer exceptional solutions in this extremely harsh environment.

Microcoin QLs can be provided pre-programmed for virtually any country and are complemented by powerful User Tools such as the Micromate handheld programmer and PC based software programming and diagnostics packages.

By virtue of its design, the multi-functional Microcoin QL has been proven to offer unsurpassed reliability, versatility and hassle-free operation.

Microcoin SP 155

The Microcoin SP 155 is an exceptional multi-coin coin validator designed for those shorter profile applications.

It boasts a revolutionary parallel path debris release system to cope with foreign object jams, stylish housing and powerful, innovative digital coin validation technology.

A key, distinguishing feature of the Microcoin SP validator is its patented parallel path debris release system. Once again, working from first principles, the Microcoin SP has been developed to address a key problem area of coin validators - coin jams.

A patented solution lifts and separates one entire half of the Microcoin SP housing from the opposing half with the push of the faceplate's reject button, which completely opens up the internal coin path of the SP and clears even the most brutal coin jam.

Not only does the Microcoin SP offer an exceptional advantage to field reliability because it will reduce the downtime which is often blamed on coin jams, it may also be completely opened to allow operators to clean the entire coin path.

With the ability to hold up to 16 coins or tokens, the Microcoin SP is capable of being pre-programmed with most international currencies. However, it also carries an enhanced suite of on-board programming features including coin programming for up to 3 coins, coin enable/disable, coin sensitivity settings and the ability to adjust the credit or totaliser settings.

A tri-colour status LED indicates the state of the Microcoin SP and serves as a visual diagnostics indicator.

The Microcoin SP conforms to de facto industry communications standards, allowing the SP to work into many amusement, vending, kiosk and transit applications.

The SP 155 faceplate stands 155mm in height and retrofits into most similar sized competitive faceplates.

Microcoin SP 115

The Microcoin SP 115 is an ultra-compact, radically designed, yet stylish coin acceptor for applications which demand absolute space minimization.

The faceplate is only 115mm high yet it clips and holds the Microcoin SP securely in place. Mechanically its profile affords a generous overlap around a door cutout to prevent tampering and it can directly replace a "roll down" mechanical acceptor.

Conforming to de facto standards, the SP115 faceplate is easily retrofitable to most applications requiring this very small profile.

The clip action of the SP faceplates, which secures the SP validator in position, is another interesting and unique Microcoin design feature. As we all know, coin validators can often be mistreated by customers and heavy knocks are known to dislodge coin validators from their faceplates, which results in annoying downtime and inconvenience.

The Microcoin SP is positively held in place with a strong clip action rather than a "friction fit", greatly minimising the effects of customer mistreatment.

Whilst applications for the Microcoin SP are wide and varied, the size of the SP 115 is well suited to kiddie rides, where space is at a premium. Similarly, with optional coin-in sensors embedded into the faceplate, the SP can offer custom battery operated solutions for pool table applications.

Regardless of the application, the Microcoin SP has a PC-based support tool named SPTalk, which allow operators to manage, program and support their own SP validators.

The Microcoin SP is a global product, with the ability to work with international currencies and any application which requires its unique features.
