Published:  01 July, 2007

Waterbrands, the bottled w a t e r company that produces Harrogate Spa Water and charity brand, Thirsty Planet, has appointed James Cain (33) to the newly-created role of operations director. A specialist in logistics, James will be responsible for all stock management, production and distribution for the Harrogate-based company.

A dissertation on warehousing and logistics completed as part of his Business Studies degree course, helped James to gain one of five places on Asda’s logistics training scheme. He spent nine years with the supermarket giant and two years as personal assistant to Asda’s chief executive before becoming Asda’s youngest-ever distribution general manager when he was put in charge of the Skelmersdale distribution centre in 2003.

“James’s expertise in logistics for an organisation as complex as a major supermarket will be key to improving efficiencies in our business,” said Waterbrands managing director, Paul Martin. “He has already introduced a number of initiatives that have improved the business, and with two distinct brands now on the market we are seeing continued accelerating sales growth. His experience will be invaluable in helping to manage this growth and ensuring the high quality of our products and customer service is maintained.”
