Ebac's eco-efficient water coolers can cut Energy Consumption by 83%
In today's current economic climate where companies are under increasing pressure to be more vigilant about cost reduction, waste, the environment and value for money, there is now more need than ever to implement energy saving measures in the work place.

When it comes to office appliances, water coolers have developed a poor reputation in recent years for having a negative environmental impact. However, the emergence of more innovative water cooler products now offers a more energy efficient option to providing a fresh supply of chilled and hot water in the office, plus, the right water cooler can even save your company energy and money when compared to other appliances such as kettles.

One company who recognises energy efficiency as an increasingly important requirement amongst its customers is water cooler manufacturer Ebac. Regarded as an innovator in the industry, Ebac has spent 15 years developing the latest technology to produce what they believe are the most energy efficient water coolers available on the market today.

A key contributor to Ebac's energy efficiency credentials is their award winning, vacuum insulated hot tank, which significantly reduces energy consumption and running costs for the end user compared to other coolers.

Winner of the 2007 Cooler and Vending Awards ‘Best Sustainability Initiative' and Silver Medal for the European Bottled Water Association's ‘Best Environmental Initiative', Ebac's robust, stainless steel hot tank works like a thermos flask by featuring a vacuum insulated jacket to retain its heat. This means the tank is heated less frequently, resulting in dramatically reduced energy consumption, and a cool well portion on the tank ensures there is minimal heat transfer to increase the efficiency of the cooler's refrigeration system that produces chilled water.

Research shows that an Ebac Hot Tank uses up to 89% less energy when compared to other hot tanks, using just 0.247kwhr and costing only 2p to dispense 1.5 litres (10 cups) of hot water per working day. This is compared to a standard kettle which on average uses 1.68kwhr to boil just once. However, we usually boil more water than we need and we are likely to boil the kettle more than once throughout the day to re-heat the water so it is likely that we would use at least 3.36kwhr a day to consume the same 1.5 litres of hot water from a kettle. Ebac's hot tank uses Electronic proportional control ensuring the water is efficiently maintained at a constant delivery temperature of 94°C, meaning you can enjoy instant access to a hot drink for less energy than you are likely to use with a kettle, as well as saving valuable time during the day.

Under Energy Star guidelines, the acceptable electricity level for a hot and cold water cooler is 1.2 kwhrs per day. However, an Ebac hot and cold cooler that dispenses 4 litres of water a day will use just 0.456 kwhr per day and cost as little as £15.33 in running costs per year - saving the user up to £57.31 per cooler each year when compared to some competitor water coolers.

Ebac's advanced cooling system also offers energy efficient benefits when compared to the cooling systems used in some other water coolers. Systems using Direct Chill rely on cooling an ‘outer layer' of water, which in turn cools the drinking water which is held in a steel coil. This means that to achieve a dispensed drinking water temperature of 5˚C, the outer layer needs to be chilled to a lower temperature of 0˚C. Unlike Direct Chill, Ebac water coolers chill the drinking water direct meaning it only has to cool water to 5˚C which saves 25% energy compared to Direct Chill.

In addition to energy efficiency, the Ebac range of water coolers also offers additional ‘green' benefits. One technological innovation that gives Ebac water coolers an environmental advantage is Ebac's revolutionary sanitisation system, which offers 100% sanitisation for maximum water hygiene. Some water cooler systems require the drinking reservoir to be removed and cleaned off-site, which can mean increased CO2 emissions due to extra van journeys, whereas Ebac's WaterTrailTM can be changed on-site in a matter of seconds. The ‘slot n' go' filter system in Ebac's mains-fed FMax POU is so easy to use it even enables the end user to change the filters themselves, allowing the removal sanitisation journeys altogether to reduce your carbon footprint as well as costs.

Cleaning processes such as UV lighting require a constant electrical supply to keep the reservoir clean, which can significantly add to the energy consumption of the cooler and processes such as Chemical sanitisation can potentially be harmful to the environment depending on how the waste product is disposed of. This is compared to the WaterTrailTM plastic reservoir which simply replaced but only uses 1/15th of the plastic that a standard water bottle sleeve uses. Both the lightweight WaterTrailTM system in our EMax cooler and the ‘slot n' go' water filters in our mains-fed FMax POU are both almost entirely recyclable, with a recycling programme in place to reduce your overall impact on the environment.

Ebac's plumbed in coolers offer an environmentally sound alternative to bottled water by delivering a constant supply of fresh, clean water direct from your mains water supply. This reduces your carbon footprint by eliminating the need for regular bottle deliveries and removing the production of non-biodegradable plastic bottles.

The fact that all Ebac water coolers are designed and manufactured in the UK also contributes towards a reduced carbon footprint compared to other water coolers which are transported from overseas and the Far East.

Commenting on Ebac's commitment to offering customers a more energy efficient water cooler solution, chairman John Elliott said, "Businesses are now becoming more open about their corporate social responsibility and over the last couple of years we've seen an increased demand for ‘enviro-positive' water coolers. We believe the superior energy efficiency of Ebac's Hot Tank is highly attractive to suppliers and consumers alike to help support their environmental policies, as well as enabling them to cut costs in today's tough economic climate."
