‘Cheat death' fruit juice ad banned
Published:  11 June, 2009

Watchdogs have banned an advertisement for pomegranate drink POM Wonderful that promised buyers that the drink would help them ‘cheat death', because it won't really make them immortal. The poster showed a bottle of the juice with a severed noose around its neck and the strapline: "Cheat death - the antioxidant power of pomegranate juice."

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that while the "immortality" implication was clearly tongue-in-cheek, consumers may be led to believe the drink could prolong their life. The ad must not appear again in its current form.
