Max-eBar - the modern, automated solution to 24-hour product service in hotels
Max-eBar, a new electronic bar from Quintus Systems, is set to revolutionise service in hotels and create an opportunity for vending operators to capitalise on this lucrative and emerging sector of the market.

Quintus Systems, a leading manufacturer of cashless payment systems, has announced the launch of an electronic bar, Max-eBar. It is an automated way for hotel guests to serve themselves with a variety of different products using their room key to charge the purchase to their room bill.

Products stocked may include alcohol, soft drinks, hot beverages, DVDs or a variety of essential toiletries. Hotel guests access the goods from a smart, tailor-made unit by swiping their card through a reader and making their selection. The cost of the purchase is automatically and instantly added to the guest's room bill. Max-eBar is a tailor-made unit, which looks very stylish using modern materials and which may be placed in the hotel foyer or on a corridor for guests' convenience.

OPPORTUNITY FOR VENDING OPERATORS

For many years, traditional forms of vending have been seen as inappropriate for the hotel sector and the hospitality industry has been a closed book for vending operators. With Max-eBar all that has changed. This is a stylish unit that will grace any hotel foyer or corridor. Other problems encountered in introducing automated dispense to the hotel market are the requirement for loose change and the difficulty of unattended alcohol sales. Both of these issues are resolved by Max-eBar.

Max-eBar can be tailor-made to each individual hotel's requirement with, optionally, a product merchandiser, hot drinks machine and ice machine. At the heart of the system is Quintus Systems' tried and tested EPnet Cashless software. It integrates Max-eBar with the hotel's property management system, operates on an easy-to-use Windows platform and is controlled from a simple PC in the back office. At no time is cash ever held on the card, which makes it totally secure for hoteliers. Max-eBar is also available for use in debit mode for those establishments, such as hostels, which require payment for goods and services in advance. Being based on a cashless system, guests using Max-eBar do not need to fumble around looking for loose change to make a purchase.

BENEFITS OVER IN-ROOM BARS

Max-eBar is a more cost-effective alternative to in-room bars, which can be expensive to purchase and run, open to pilferage and even vulnerable to product sabotage. Now, Max-eBar offers a low investment, totally secure way to sell alcohol and sundries to guests around the clock without the attendant risk of contamination. By placing a limited number of Max-eBar electronic bars in strategic locations throughout the hotel, guests can have ready access to drinks, snacks and toiletries 24 hours per day.

The EPnet Cashless software that runs Max-eBar may also be used to enable guests to use their room key to pay for transactions in other areas of the hotel, for example in the bar and restaurant, or in the spa and exercise suite. It may even be used to pay for internet or fax use in the business centre and to charge for car parking and operate car park barriers. Once again, transactions are reported in real time to the hotel's PMS system for guest payment upon departure.

Speaking about Max-eBar, Managing director of Quintus Systems, Peter Quinney commented: "Max-eBar will appeal to vending operators, enabling them to gain a foothold in the lucrative hospitality market with a stylish unit that is a world away from traditional vending. The system is all about impulse purchase, with no change needed and no credit card required. All a guest needs is his room key, which he will have on him at all times. It is all about ease and convenience of use without the cost and problems of in-room bars. Max-eBar can be tailor-made to individual hotel requirements and may be free-standing or built in at the hotel's choice. We are actively looking for distributors for Max-eBar and believe that it represents a huge diversification opportunity for operators already established in other areas of the vending industry."
